Toned-Ground Subtractive Drawing
Drawing Studio • Charcoal • 18” x 24” • Spring Semester
Charcoal still life drawn from observation using additive and subtractive techniques on toned paper with a focus on scale, proportion, and giving objects mass and volume with the illusion of value.
Northern Call
Drawing Studio • Graphite • 22” x 30” • Spring Semester
Graphite texture drawing depicting seven objects with different textures. The objects are arranged in a surrealistic composition in which the objects are not the same size relative to one-another and some objects (such as the compass and water) are even cut and layered in an act of “human Photoshop.” The objects I chose to depict are all related to memories of the Midwestern northwoods, specifically the Boundary Waters and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where I enjoy backpacking and canoeing in the summer.
